Treating the Pain vs. Treating the Cause

Your symptoms tell us a lot about your injury.  Where does it hurt?  When does it hurt?  How bad does it hurt?

However, in order to truly treat your injury we need to treat more than just your symptoms.  Chiropractic sports medicine teaches us to look at the whole body and the biomechanics which lead to the injury.  We figure out why the injury occurred and work with the patient to correct the cause.  Many factors can lead to injury including proper equipment, proper training, prior injury, muscle imbalance, joint fixations, and even psychological factors.  Our job is to treat the pain and find the root of them problem.

Reach Your Performance Goals

Our mission is to make our patients' goals our goals.

Reach Your Performance Goals

Our mission is to make our patients' goals our goals.

Increase Flexibility

Improved flexibility may improve performance and decrease injury by allowing your joints to move unrestricted through their entire range of motion.  For instance when hiking on an incline your ankle should go through a full range of motion, but if your achilles tendon lacks proper flexibility your range of motion will be restricted.  Over time your achilles tendon will be put under stress and you may develop an overuse injury such as tendonitis or tendinopathy. Also, increased flexibility also increases blood flow to the muscle, increasing oxygen to the area and improving muscle performance and recovery.  The flexibility of a muscle will also improve the contractile strength.  Think of a muscle like a rubber band; the farther it is stretched, the stronger the recoil.

Increasing flexibility is done in our office through chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue manipulation.  We also teach our patients how to correctly stretch before - and more importantly - after hitting the trail, the yoga mat, or the field.

Incresed flexibility also increases blood flow to the muscle. And you may come to enjoy the ritual of stretching before — or better yet, after — hitting the trail, ballet floor or soccer field.

Correct Muscle Imbalances

Muscle imbalance can occur between someones dominant and non-dominant side, and also between opposing muscles that move the same joint, for example the quadricep muscles and the hamstrings.

Muscle imbalances may lead to injury and inhibit optimum performance.

By recognizing the location of the muscle imbalance, and developing a treatment plan to correct the imbalance, we can decrease healing time, reduce the chance of re-injury, and improve

Improve Movement Efficiency

What is it that sets elite athletes apart?  The efficiency of their movement.

By isolating the muscle groups that are needed for movement, the body is able to conserve energy.  This energy is then available to be used to increase strength, speed and endurance.

Movement efficiency can be affected by pain, decreased flexibility, muscle imbalance and injury.  Chiropractic sports medicine will reduce and eliminate these factors
